Money is a bitch.

All I ask for is "enough". Enough to be comfortable, live my life in a safe, healthy manner, and enough to have some fun on the side.

That reminds me... I've been meaning to ask you if you can help me make a desk for my office. I really need a desk.

I agree very strongly with this. I couldn't be more on your wavelength.

My flatmates ask me constantly (once again just this morning, actually) to join their Amway/Network21 money making scheme, a process which, and I have all confidence that they are right, will land them in some serious cash in the next few years.

But that's just not me. I'd rather create art, than an income, and die poor at whatever age I happen to let death get the better of me. I'd rather this, than spend my days chasing networks and connections. ... And sometimes it's hard for these people to understand that. You're right, our brains are just wired differently. But, I personally believe it has more to do with nurture, than nature.

I believe that nature wires our minds to survive, and we are nurtured to realise the lowest point of effort at which we can survive, and stay happy.

Happy is the key here.

I am happy to live off nothing, provided I can still participate in creating something beautiful. I was nurtured in a family without money, to realise this, and to pass the time, and gain the little income that we had, they produced art. Producing art was a step towards money, but value more than money, in the long run. Creating was paramount. Reward was excellent, but not always necessary.

What does Ian do then, instead of striving for the greenback[sic]?

post script: You've mentioned that you "know ... personal health without thinking." - that's something I don't know. You're lucky to have that. I often think I'm lucky just to survive with no fatal infections; I constantly have food poisoning. I just wanted to point out how much I admire that trait in people, being able to look after your body properly.
